BBLUNT Haircare —BoycottBoycut

If a haircut is universal, why does the name, “boycut” still reinforce gender bias?

On International Women’s Day, a day that asks women to #ChooseToChallenge in 2021, BBLUNT, an Indian haircare giant, chose to Boycott the word ‘Boy Cut’, challenging the dated stereotypes imposed on women with short hair. We successfully mobilised our community to propose and select a new, universally gender-neutral name: "Unicut."

“Boycut” was successfully removed from our vocabulary, setting a new standard for inclusivity in the beauty industry.

The campaign won a Kyoorius baby blue elephant award for user engagement and community building.
